pumpkin patch

Grandpa and Grandma Bell came up for the weekend to give Darrel and me a date night in Seattle–which was so nice!  When we got back on Saturday, we all went to the pumpkin patch/apple cider mill.

Since Darrel and I have different definitions of what the “perfect pumpkin” looks like, we always end up with a couple!

I think Lucy liked this one.

And the great ending every year–apple fritters!

Fall is here. . .

and Lucy is loving it!

conversations with Sela

The highlight of many of my days recently as a stay-at-home mom has been the conversations that Sela and I have.  The challenge, however, is that we often hit road blocks where I just can’t figure out the word she is trying to say.  And she is never satisfied with an “Oh, I see.”  She wants to make sure she’s understood!

So this morning, we were sitting down for breakfast and I was trying to teach Sela a new Bible verse.  “Repeat after me, ‘In the beginning. . . God created. . .the heavens and the earth.'”

Sela’s version went like this:  “In the beginning. . .God made. . .poo-poo!”  Poo-poo??  I tried to think of every possible thing that “poo-poo” might mean.  I know that we’ve told her that God created everything, but I’m pretty certain that we never mentioned “poo-poo” specifically.  After a few minutes of Sela repeating the word louder and louder, and of me running out of guesses, she said she needed to get her really big book.  She came back to the table with her Bible, paged through, and pointed to Adam and Eve.  “Oh, PEOPLE” I exclaimed!  Just another reminded that kids are smarter than we think, and really are learning something when we try to teach them!

our new favorite toy

The girls have been loving this little car lately.  Lucy has a constant smile stuck on her face whenever her big sis is pushing her.  I’m very thankful that Sela enjoys it so much as well–I remember when Sela was little it was ME crawling on the floor pushing her around.  So I guess some things really are easier with 2 kids!

what do you think?

After my sister mentioned that Lucy looked just like me in this picture, I had to dig up an old baby picture to compare.  I see some similarities.  Kind of funny that we both have the shaped curl on top of our heads–although I’m sure mine was intentional by sleeping with a curler, whereas Lucy just pulled her ponytail out!

old friends and good times!

Our good friends David and Christina and their adorable daughters, Laila and Maddie, came to visit from Memphis this past week.  We miss you guys already!  It was so great to catch up with old friends.  We tried to hit some highlights of Western Washington in hopes that they just wouldn’t be able to leave!

we did the Puyallup (Fair)

Sela cried at the first sight of the roller coaster because it was too noisy.  However, after a warm-up ride on the familiar carousel, she was ready to go have fun with Laila.

And what’s a fair without fair food?

I think Maddie’s face says it all!

we spent a day in downtown Seattle

Notice one set of kids is eating figs and the other is eating donuts!

and we had fun in Olympia

The Bell Bed & Breakfast is now vacant for awhile.  Any takers?
